Quartz crystal with BERTRANDITE   Government Pit, Albany, NH
4.5 inch smoky quartz crystal. Tan areas have micro bertrandite crystals.
Species:           BERTRANDITE
Locality:         Government Pit, Albany, NH
Specimen Size: 2 mm field of view
Field Collected: Leroy Grant - 1970's
Catalog No.: Gifted
Notes: I have been cleaning and reviewing a few remaining large pieces in a tub of G Pit specimens that I got from the Leroy Grant collection in 2018. One was a 4.5 inch smoky quartz crystal (2nd photo), mostly the root section. Saw some sparkle in the tan areas, so looked under the scope... many dozen (hundreds?) of bertrandite crystals ! Very lustrous at different orientations, so difficult to get a photo without one mirror face. Bertrandite appears to be uncommon from the Government Pit. No photos on mindat.org.
